“The Mardi-Gras Bal Masque…The distinctive features of the soirée were, however, few, and the ball will be principally remembered by the guests because of the excellence of the music, the good taste of the costumes, the symmetry of the sylph like forms and the furia Francese with which round dances and quadrilles were alike performed.”

“French Circle of Harmony…Under the able direction of M. Gaffee [sic] nothing was wanting in the character of the music furnished by the orchestra, to whose enlivening measures, the throng of dancers, clad in the usual variety of fantastic costumes, trod merrily the waltz, the polka and the quadrille. The management was excellent throughout, and the unfailing courtesy of the President of the Society, M. Adolphe Salmon, as well as the other officers, and the members of the ball committee, contributed greatly to the enjoyment of the evening. It is understood that the proceeds of this ball, amounting to a very considerable sum, are to be devoted to the aid of the French Benevolent Society of this City.”
