“The pupils of Sig. MAUROCCHI [i.e., Manzocchi] gave that popular master, who has the privilege of naming ADELINA PATTI as one of the triumphs of his school, a complimentary concert on Sunday evening.  Many young ladies and gentlemen of society, who were heard at Dr. WARD’S theatre, and at some of the private residences during the next Winter, at the Southern Relief entertainments, sung on this occasion.  A leading voice, in its power to please, was that of Miss MERRIFIELD, who, in the cavatina from ‘Trovatore,’ furnished evidence of good capacity and delicate taste.  A little daughter of Sig. MAUROCCHI made her debut as a pianist, playing a caprice from MENDELSSOHN and GOTTSCHALK’S ‘March de Nuit,’ with much skill and a good mimicry of feeling.  The routine and mechanism apparent at most ‘pupils’ concerts,’ was less prominent than is customary on this occasion.”
