"A crowded house as usual witnessed the admirable performances of this troupe last evening—the best capabilities of Birch, Bernard and Backus, and of Wambold being fully displayed in the performances presented.  In laughter-provoking burlesque, versatile, humorous and witty, with allusions to the current events of the minstrelsy, the San Francisco troupe are [sic] almost inimitable.  The very funny ‘Imperial Japanese,’ ‘Flying Scud’ and ‘Black Cook’ together with the fine sweet reminiscence of ‘The Birds Will Come Again,’ and other ballads, amply illustrated the talents, if not the genius, of the performers.  It would be a question worthy of commentators to decide where an evening could be more delightfully enjoyed.”

“’The San Francisco Minstrels are ‘gorguous’[sic] in merriment, and revel in the mazy.  It is better than eating jam to visit those famous funny fellows, for they make you feel happy and contented for days afterward.  They offer a ‘sensation’ programme for the current week, a bill of fare full of fruitful fancies.  See ‘em!”
