“Many important improvements have been made during the summer in Steinway Hall. The entrances have been enlarged, the patent sunlights in the ceiling have been improved, and additional gas candelabra have been put in. The think exterior walls have not yet dried sufficiently to allow of the interior decoration desired and contemplated. The hall will be formally opened by Mr. Harrison on the first of October, on which occasion the first of the regular season will be given. Madame Parepa-Rosa will be the leading singer, and the best vocalists in the country will be engaged to take part in this and the succeeding concerts. Among the new attractions will be Mr. Leopold de Meyer, the famous pianist, who has not been heard here for twenty years. He is said to have improved in his forcible style of playing. Mr. Theodore Thomas is depended on to furnish the orchestral performances and will bring to the discharge of his duties all his acknowledged ability and exquisite taste. His orchestra is enlarged and improved in quality, and his repertory of new music very extensive.”
