“Of Miss Lucille Western, as she appears in her favorite play of ‘East Lynne,’ nothing that is new can be said. Those who admire her style of acting, and they are very numerous, cannot see her to better advantage than in this play.”

“Master Barney commenced an engagement with the San Francisco Minstrels on the 3d inst.  As a jig dancer he is one of the best at present on the stage.  He dances a straight jig, executing several new and difficult steps, all of which are done with great precision.  He keeps excellent time, and his style reminds us much of the lamented John Diamond. . . . There was a slight falling off in the attendance last week, owing, no doubt, to the warm weather.”
