Lease on the Broadway Theatre. George Wood was going to transfer the lease of the Broadway Theatre to Charley White “for two years, for the variety business, at an annual rental of $30,000, but as the owner of the property would not permit the lease to be transferred for that style of amusement, all arrangements were knocked in the head.”

Barney Williams is now the lessee, “having yesterday completed the purchase of the two years’ lease held by Mr. George Wood. The new régime was splendidly inaugurated with Barney and his wife in two of those characteristic pieces of which there are so many in the répertoire of these popular artists. A brilliant and appreciative audience crowded the theatre early after the doors were open.”

“George Wood walked out of the box office of the Broadway Theatre, which he has conducted with so much ability for three seasons, on Monday morning, March 25th, and Mr. Barney Williams took possession as manager. Mr. Wood has the consolation of knowing that he leaves the establishment in a much healthier condition than he found it. He received from Mr. Williams a check for $35,000 for all his interest in the establishment, with a two year lease.”
