“Shamus O’Brien was revived at this theatre on Monday night. Its effective plot, varied incidents and telling situations make it one of the most attractive of Irish dramas, and the hero, “the bould boy of Glengall,” is the very impersonification of Fenianism and anti-redcoatism, appealing thus to the sympathies of every head centre and circle on either side of the Atlantic. Mr. Dan Bryant gave us a natural, earnest and enjoyable rendering of the title role. He relieved the melodramatic tendency of the character in some of the scenes with delicate touches of pathos and humor, the more acceptable as they are rare attributes of stage Irishmen.”
