“Great preparations are being made for the production of the ‘Devil’s Auction’ at Banvard’s Museum. It has been in preparation for several weeks and was expected to be ready for this evening, but the great amount of work that is being bestowed upon it and the many necessary the management have concluded not to bring it out until it is complete in all its details.”
“… written expressly for this theatre by Mr. Arthur Cuvas Armengol, and which will be produced in a manner never before attempted in America, nor surpassed in Europe. The scenery, painted by the renowned artists Messrs. Calyo & Sons, the costumes, armor, properties, and mechanical effects, all made from original designs and imported from Paris at a cost of $75,000, will outvie in splendor anything yet presented to the American public.”
