Review: New York Herald, 01 October 1867, 3.

“Mlle. Marietta Ravel appeared last night in the everlasting French Spy, that drama of terrific broadsword combats, belligerent supernumeraries, fulminating guns and wild Arabs. Mlle. Ravel is a young and talented pantomime artist, and has been trained in the excellent school of the Ravels. She fully sustained her reputation as a pantomimist last night, and deserves to rank among the best performers in that line. The programme at the Bowery is long enough to and varied enough to satisfy the most exacting of the East siders. First we had the French Spy, then a comic scene between two clever little children, then a clog dance, and lastly a highwayman's drama, in which Studley carried off the honors.  The attendance was very large, and proportionally demonstrative in point of applause. We almost forget to mention a speech from one of the boxes, which, although not 'mentioned in the bond,' was received with enthusiasm.”
