“Perhaps the most prolific author in the United States is the dramatist who supplies Tony Pastor with the ‘new dramas’ that are weekly placed before the denizens of the ‘classic’ Bowery. Last evening a new sensation in the shape of a piece entitled Uncle Sam’s Veterans was presented to a full house, and was performed amid the rapturous applause of the assembled throng. Of twelve characters in the play all were equally prominent, and therefore it would be unjust to make distinctions, or to praise one without praising the others. Sufficient to say that all of the actors and actresses displayed their usual abilities, engaged as they were in the laudable effort to outshine each other. Of the drama in question but little need be said. It pleased the audience, and consequently, must be considered a success, as it will be presented every evening during the present week.  Prior to the representation of the drama the customary olle podrida was presented. Ballet dancing, songs, tableaux and acrobatic feats served to while away the first part of the evening in a very agreeable manner. Tony Pastor opened his portfolio and gave four songs, which were excellent, and received the applause they merited. The Artist’s Last Chance was a rich burlesque and kept the audience in a roar of laughter. On the whole, the bill performed last evening was the best that has been presented at the before named place of amusement for some time, and deserves the highest praise that can be bestowed upon it.”
