Review: New York Herald, 29 November 1866, 5.

“A Soiree Musicale was given at the Steuben House last night be the Sing Academie, a male and female chorus, composed of about seventy singers. The progamme embraced a chorus of Bruch, entitled Birchen und Erlen, which was rendered by a full chorus of male and female singers with soprano solo; one of Haydn’s symphonies, and rapsodien from Tannhäuser for the piano; a duet from Kuecken (Treibe Schifflein Leibe), and other compositions. The Rhine Wine chorus (Rheinwein lied) was rendered with great perfection by the male choristers, under the direction of Mr. Pinker, the leader of the Academie. The male chorus singers also rendered curious composition of Zoelner [sic], a humoresque. Several solo singers, male and female, acquitted themselves with great credit, showing that the Sing Academie is fully provided with all the attributes of an efficient musical association. The soiree was a very select affair, and passed off pleasantly.”
