Review: New York Herald, 29 November 1866, 5.

“The first reception of the Purim Association was held last evening at Ferrero’s rooms. The reputation deservedly enjoyed by the members of this society insured a large but select attendance, and the many enjoyable features of the programme were duly appreciated. It will suffice to say that the rendering of the music by Theodore Thomas’ orchestra, under the direction of F. G. Eben, was unexceptional, and that, despite the sultriness of the weather, the interpolated waltzes and galops passed by not unhonored. The soirée, which was strictly a fashionable private gathering, passed off most pleasantly, under the personal supervision of an efficient committee of arrangements, presided over by Mr. Adolph L. Sanger.”
