“Bright skies and intensely hot weather lured hundreds from their sweltering homes yesterday to the regular Wednesday concert in the Park. The Mall and Terrace were crowded, and the entire fleet of boats, numbering twenty-six, was fully manned. The Hilda waltz, a companion to the Mabel, and by the same composer; Parigi o cara, from Traviata; Parlord’s Columbanus Galop and a duet from Lucia were the noticeable features of the programs. The boat containing the cornet band was in command of Mr. Jeff Dodworth, the regular commander being absent. There is no necessity in recapitulating last week’s description of the music on the lake. The effect is charming, and many prefer it to the Saturday concert. The dromedary promenaded the Mall yesterday with his keeper on his back, and the Cape buffaloes were objects of interest to many of the visitors. . . .”
