“In the words of one MacGregor, ‘come gather, gather, gather,’ at the New Bowery, where a new spectacular play is to be brought out this evening with new scenery, machinery, costumes, et cetera. The play is entitled the ‘Gaelic Chief, or the Gathering of the Clans,’ and to give due effect to the development of the plot and the denouement, a large number of auxiliaries have been engaged. Among other novelties introduced will be the Scotch bagpipes, played on by Mr. McClelland and Peter Bowman, the well known Caledonian pipers. A stirring drama will be played each evening, in addition to the spectacle. The large stage of the New Bowery affords ample scope for scenic display, processions, etc., and in the ‘Gaelic Chief’ the entire space will be thrown open to public view.”
