Announcement: New-York Times, 08 October 1866, 5.

“We have already announced the arrival of Mr. James M. Wehli, the celebrated pianist. We are now happy to say that he has been engaged by Mr. Leonard Grover, and will speedily depart for a lengthened tour in the principal cities of the Union. The company is an exceedingly good one, embracing the names of Mr. Wehli, Mr. Franz Himmer, Mr. Habelman, Mr. Wilhelm Formes and Mme. Frederici. The troupe will give two matinees prior to its departure, on Wednesday and on Saturday next, at the Olympic Theatre. The artists we have named will appear on the occasion.”

Article: New-Yorker Musik-Zeitung, 10 October 1866, 154.

The pianist Wehli has been engaged by Leonard Grover and will give concerts with Mrs. Frederici, Mr. Himmer, Mr. Habelmann, Mr. Wilhelm Formes and Hermanns here and in the rest of the country. We believe that this group will be a very successful team. The concerts in New York are planned as matinees. If they are successful, the group might not travel. Wehli’s style of playing the piano is very sentimental and especially attractive to the ladies. In person, the artist is a good-hearted man.

Announcement: New York Clipper, 13 October 1866, 214.

Jas. Wehli, just returned from ‘Europe and a market,’ as the commercial reporters say, announces a couple of matinees this week at the Olympic Theatre. This is ‘prior to his starting on a tour of the continent.’ This able man will be assisted by his man Habelmann, and by Mme. Marie Frederici and Herman. Billy Formes is also counted in. Let Wehli have good houses, for well he deserves them.”
