“The New French Theatre, with its English comic opera, did so well during the opening weeks that the manager determined to raise the prices of admission; this was accordingly done last week, and the very natural result was a beggarly account of empty seats, notwithstanding the ‘Rose of Castile’ alternated with the ‘Doctor of Alcantara.’ Having tried the public on this lay, and found them wanting, old prices will again rule, but the damage has been done, and business will not be what it was before this attempt at higher prices was made.”
