“The Ball of the Washington Light Guard.

One of the most brilliant, and the best-appointed, ball [sic] of the season came off last evening at the City Assembly Rooms, in Broadway. It was given by the members of Company B, Twelfth Regiment, New-York State Militia, known as the ‘Washington Light Guard,’ in commemoration of the birthday of that great patriot from whom the company takes its name. There were present the members of the regiment, besides a large number of invited guests, including many distinguished military gentlemen, among whom we noticed several members of the veteran Gen. Wool’s Staff. The ladies comprised more than one-half of the assemblage, and added to the elegance of the affair by the magnificence of their attire. The ball-room, which is an extremely commodious one, was brilliantly illuminated, and handsomely decorated with the Stars and Stripes and the colors of the Regiment. The programme comprised twenty-five dances, the music for which was performed by Robertson’s Band. The gentlemen who constituted the Committee were untiring in their efforts to render the occasion an agreeable one to all, and as far as we are able to judge, they succeeded admirably. The dancing commenced with a quadrille, at about ten o’clock, and with the exception of the time devoted to supper, lasted until the ‘wee hours of the morning.’ It was estimated that the number of tickets sold for this ball could not have been less than eight hundred.” Concludes with a list of committee members.
