Theodor Thomas may continue his summer concerts, which took place at the Terrace Garden, at the Lyric Hall, a new restaurant at 6th Avenue, between 41st and 42nd street. The Thomas orchestra and fine soloists will perform there on Fridays and Sundays.

“Mr. Theo. Thomas, who has done so much for music in this city, and whose name is a guarantee of a chaste and careful entertainment, gave the grand opening of his Popular Orchestral Concerts at the new Lyric Hall in Sixth ave. last evening. The entertainment embraced selections fromVerdi, Weber, Meyerbeer, and other eminent composers, which were rendered in a manner to call forth the warmest plaudits of all, who manifested their appreciation of Mr. Thomas’s great past successes by their presence in the neat little hall where he has made this musical venture. It may be, however, that the patrons art have not yet learned to attend evening concerts so near to the Central Park as the old Crystal Palace grounds, and Mr. Thomas is a brave man to be a pioneer in the tide that is setting up town, but Lyric Hall will help him to overcome any difficulties that may stand in his way. The city does not afford a more agreeable Concert Room, or one better adapted for the less ambitious interpretations of the Divine art. The withdrawing and dressing-rooms, too, are tastefully furnished and agreeably situated, with reference to the main hall. It is, we understand, the intention of Mr. Thomas to give a series of popular Orchestral Concerts every Friday and Sunday evening during the season, and also introduce at different times a number of distinguished soloists as a special feature of the entertainments. The first Grand Sunday Concert will be given to-morrow evening.”

“The Summer evening concerts, which Mr. Theodore Thomas made so attractive at Terrace Garden, were, in a measure, resumed on the opening of Lyric Hall on Friday evening last. This new place of amusement, situated opposite Reservoir Park, is just in the midst of a music-loving population, and the character of the music constituted the opening programme, alternating the merrier and lighter dance airs with the character of the music which constituted the opening programme, alternating the merrier and lighter dance airs with the grander pieces for more intellectual enjoyment, is just the kind to make Lyric Hall and Mr Thomas’ Winter Concerts as popular and wothy as those which became so widely known at Terrace Garden. The second of these entertainments was given last evening, and was largely attended. Lyric is a convenient, pretty and cosy place, and will doubtless become a standard place among the local amusements.”

Not a musical review. This is only an announcement that the event had happened.

“Mr. Theo. Thomas has commenced a new series of concerts at Lyric Hall, in Sixth avenue, near the reservoir. His celebrated orchestra will render in their usual effective style music varied and attractive as usual.”
