“First Sunday in Advent.  All hands at Church.  Anthem was mere dry bones, doing one of Dr. Cutler’s worthless works, but at the Offertory we had that noble choral ‘Sleepers Awake’ from Mendelssohn’s St. Paul.  While promenading the middle aisle with my big plate I could not attend to it as I wanted to, but it seemed fairly rendered, tho’ the time was taken too slow.”
