“Billy Birch, Charley Backus, Bernard and Wambold seem to be the accredited plenipotentiaries of the deity of fun to the sober city of Gotham. Under the management the San Francisco minstrels commence the trouble at eight every night, and make the sides of their patrons shake with merriment for two hours.”

“‘The Shadow Pantomime’ has been revived by the San Francisco Minstrels, and is received with shouts of laughter every night. We never saw a more pleasing act than this, and it is sure of sending the audience home in the best of humor. Just what is wanted in a minstrel company. A burlesque act from ‘Norwood’ has been programmed for this week, when Billy Birch will deliver an original sermon, not after the style of Henry Ward Beecher.  Backus’ imitation of actors, which always pleases, is also on the programme for this week.”
