Review: New-Yorker Staats-Zeitung und Herold, 27 November 1867, 8.

“The NY Allgemeine Sängerbund consists of 11 choruses and about 200 active members at this time. The choral pieces were performed with precision and confidence. Mrs. Ehlers sang the piece from Wilhelm Tell and a farewell song with taste and understanding. The concert was done very well all in all and was very pleasing to the large number of attendees.”

Review: New-Yorker Musik-Zeitung, 30 November 1867, 267.

“The performance was unsatisfactory. The choruses seemed ill-prepared and the exclusion of the Schillerbund brought the number of the singers down to only 60 – 70. Therefore songs [such] as the ‘Priesterchor’ from the Magic Flute, ‘Die Liebe’ by Zöllner, and the award song of the Sängerbund ‘Ossian’ by Beschnitt were not very effective. The orchestra played excellently under the direction of Mr. Krüger, and the singers did their best under the circumstances. However, the tenor soloists in ‘Ossian’ were not well-chosen by Krüger. Mrs. Ehlers sang the recitative and romance from Wilhelm Tell and Abt’s ‘Bleib bei mir’ and she received much applause from the large audience.”
