“THERE is an entire change of bill this week with Kelly and Leon’s Misntrels. ‘Faust,’ after having been played for four weeks, was withdrawn on Nov. 30. The business at this house last week was as great as any week since the party first opened. Several nights the house was so crowded that even standing room could not be had. The company is one of the best we have had in this city for a long time, and they give a good first and second part.”

“The inexhaustible Leon is a perfect Proteus at Kelly and Leon’s minstrels.  One time as a prima donna, again as a Yankee gal, another time as a plantation belle, he convulses the audience with laughter.  His operatic burlesques on ‘Faust,’ ‘Ballo in Maschera’ and ‘Le Grand Duchesse’ are side splitting and ingenious.”
