“San Francisco Minstrels, Broadway.—The programme of the present week at this popular place of entertainment is recherché and varied. The new song, ‘Chime of Bells,’ sung by Mr. Wambold, is exceedingly sweet and simple in music and words, and like many other gems introduced by this favorite tenor, will become exceedingly popular. ‘The Perplexing Predicament,’ ‘Grand Dutch Cheese Opera,’ and the burlesque, ‘Under the Kerosene Lamp,’ in all of which the leading gentlemen sustain parts are laughable and beyond expression, as also is Mr. Backus’ broad imitations of Forrest, Maggie Mitchell, Ristori, Charles Dickens and other well-known personages. The closing catastrophe in ‘Under the Kerosene Lamp’ is exceedingly rich, and brought down a crowded house with roars of laughter. The San Francisco Minstrels experience no diminution in public patronage and favor and they certainly deserve the proud position which they now hold with all lovers of music fun and frolic as a leading entertainment in our city.”
