Lyrics to the first part of the “Unidentified Christmas Carol written expressly for the occasion” are given: “Again the hour is pealing / When Jesus left the sky / All worlds before him kneeling / For man to bleed and die.  Chorus: Ring – bells – ring sweetly ever / ‘till Christ shall come again / And from the graves deliver / His saints with him to reign.”  “A large and fashionable audience . . . ’Adeste fideles’ [was] executed in a very laudable manner. . . .

During the singing of the [‘Unidentified Christmas Carol’], the bells of Trinity took up the refrain of the chorus outside, producing a fine effect. . . .

‘The Christmas Tree,’ composed by Rev. Dr. Ogleby for the occasion, was then sung. . . .

During the afternoon, the chimes of old Trinity played . . . tunes upon the bells, producing a magnificent effect.”
