Superior Court Judge Robertson rendered a decision in the case of Laura Keene vs. J. S. Clarke that a manager owning a MSS. play must hang prominent cards around the auditorium and paint on each ticket a notification that admission to the theatre does not include permission to memorize the piece (nor any part of it) acted with the intention of representing the work elsewhere.
