“Signor Pancani, one of the brightest ornaments of Italian opera that this city has been favored with for years past, sailed for Europe with his accomplished wife in the steamship Laurent on Saturday last. In the short but brilliant season of opera at Pike’s, which came to such an abrupt termination, Pancani’s charming tenor voice and thoroughly artistic school, both in singing and acting, were the most attractive features in ‘Ernani,’ ‘Trovatore,’ &c. It is seldom that the operatic stage on either side of the Atlantic can boast of a tenor possessing a voice of such sympathetic quality of tone, capable of giving the fullest expression to the most dramatic and passionate kind of music.”
