“This picturesque retreat, lying between One-hundred-and tenth and One-hundred-and-twelfth-sts., near the Eighth-ave., was formally opened for the season yesterday by its new proprietor, Mr. Sixt Ludwig Kapff. These beautiful gardens, being located in the suburbs, have been the favorite resort for our German citizens for the past three years. . . . Beside the gardens there is a spacious Pagoda, or summer-house, which has been the scene of a number of fine musical entertainments, conducted by such leaders as Thomas and Bergmann. The midsummer night festivals of the Arion and Liederkranz Societies have also been held here.”
