“The entertainments of this company are especially commendable for their neatness of language, superior vocal merits, original flakes of wit and intense comicality of eccentric acts.”

“The programmes of our various minstrel halls remain unchanged. Good bills, full houses and plenty of fun are at present the general order of affairs in the world of minstrelsy…the San Francisco still do the ‘Barber Brown.’”

“An entertainment, sparkling all over with witticisms, new jokes and conundrums, was presented each evening the past week by the San Francisco Minstrels, to large and delighted audiences. The bill remained the same as that of the previous week, excepting a few slight changes that were made in the laughable afterpiece called ‘Barber Brown, or the Pacific Sloper.’ As a finale, Wambold sings the opening song by Barber Blu in the opera of that name, assisted by the full company in the chorus. It is quite an improvement to the piece, and is most effectively rendered by Mr. Wambold, whose make up for a Dutchman is very laughable.”
