Article: New-York Times, 07 September 1868, 4.

“The various musical conservatories of the City are now about commencing the season. Instruction will again become good and cheap. We shall refer to the separate establishments in another article. There will soon be an addition to the number. We hear that Mme. Gazzaniga, Signor Ronconi (the great buffo) and Signor Albites have formed a combination to establish a ‘College for Instruction in the Art of Singing.’ It will be conducted on the best European plan, and will be divided into two different departments, one for those who desire to sing simply as amateurs, and the other for those who wish to adopt singing as a profession. In addition to the vocal classes there will be instruction in declamation and the routine of the stage. Americans will thus have an opportunity of pursuing a course of study which heretofore could only be pursued in Europe. The College location will be at Chickering’s, No. 11 East Fourteenth-street.”
