“‘The longer he runs the stronger he grows.’ This expression is made to Humpty Dumpty at the Olympic, who has reached his two hundred and fifth performance, without betraying as yet any symptoms of shakiness. There seems to be a vitality and a freshness about this pale-faced individual that is positively fascinating. He apparently never tires of his mischievous pranks or capers, never grows old and is always brim full of fun and jollity. He will continue to hold his inimitable levees until further notice.”

“Joseph Jefferson has foregone his engagement at the Olympic Theatre, having come to the conclusion that he could do no better, and perhaps not so well as Humpty Dumpty, so he has relinquished the present engagement at this establishment and H. D. will continue on in the even tenor of his way undisturbed and master of the situation. It is really astonishing to note the big business that has been done and is still being done at this theatre. Night after night is the house crowded, and scarcely standing room is to be found. The pantomime, it is thought, will run in its present condition until Christmas, when many changes will occur. Mr. Hayes is busily engaged on a new transformation scene; a new ballet will appear, also a number of ingenious tricks and amusing acts imported from London.”

“On the 14th Lena Edwin appeared as the Fairy Queen, and Irene Gay made her debut in this city as Burlesque. Miss Edwin played the Queen for two weeks, after which Miss Gay doubled it with Burlesque.  The theatre is densely crowded every night.”

“The two hundred and eleventh successive performance of Humpty Dumpty takes place at the Olympic Theatre this evening.  The only change made since our last has been the engaging of a new pig, and the withdrawal of Alice Harrison from the cast. Miss Harrison has been doubling the parts of Burlesque and Fairy Queen since the first production of the pantomime.”
