The North East Sängerbund had two meetings on the 17th and 21st of the month. On the 17th, the arrangement committee for the forthcoming concert announced that it had hired the forty best musicians in New York under the direction of Mr. Kreitz, who will conduct several orchestral pieces at the event. Paur, the Sängerbund’s conductor, immediately raised an objection, firstly, because he was not consulted or involved in the process, and also regarding the decision that Mr. Kreitz will conduct orchestral pieces at the concert. In the ensuing discussion, the group of delegates both supported and criticized Paur in part. Emotions were strong, and the discussion became an argument. When Paur’s regular tardiness for rehearsals was raised, Paur and another delegate resigned their positions with the Sängerbund. The debate continued in the following meeting on the 21st in which a consensus was eventually reached by keeping the forty musicians, and annulling the section of the contract in which Kreitz was to conduct orchestral pieces.
