Third and last week but one of Mrs. Lander.

“Mrs. F. W. Lander enters successfully upon the third and last week but one of her engagement at the Broadway Theatre. Elizabeth, Queen of England, will be kept upon the boards until Friday, when it will be withdrawn for the purpose of affording the public an opportunity of witnessing her inimitable performance of Mary Stuart. As Elizabeth Mrs. Lander to-day stands without an equal in this country and is justly entitled to the flattering recognition she has received and the proud title she has won of ‘the accomplished tragic queen of the American stage.’ The great tragedienne is daily growing in popularity and the only regret we have is that the stage is not favored with more ladies of the same stamp. She is ably supported by the admirable stock company of the Broadway, and the greatest care and attention have been bestowed upon the mounting of the piece, while the historical correctness of the costumes defies criticism.”

“Mrs. Lander finds no necessity for changing her role at the Broadway. At the beginning of her engagement English versions of ‘Mary Stuart’ and ‘Marie Antoinette’ were promised, but the favor with which ‘Elizabeth’ has been received has suggested the postponement of those pieces, and the repetition of Giacometti’s tragedy. Mrs. Lander’s engagement endures a fortnight longer.”

"Mrs. Lander has engaged in a worthy labor—that of reviving popular interest in these sedate and royal heroines of the drama; and playgoers who hold the higher interests of the art dear, can scarcely reward Mrs. Lander too much—that is to say, she deserves the largest audiences that the Broadway Theatre can contain.”
