Brief: “There have been some acceptable ‘cuts’ made in the piece, but Lotta continues to carry the burden of it in the same graceful, reckless, unconventional manner that characterizes all her acting and makes her so great a favorite. ‘Fire Fly’ will doubtless hold the boards for some time to come.”
This is the second week of Firefly. The play is doing well and will continue. Lotta has also improved.
Firefly is doing well and will remain for four or five more weeks. Many new plays will be produced here in the fall. Standard comedies interspersed with new sensational dramas will be the standard fare.
“The attendance was very good the past week, although the house was not full any evening, owing, probably, to the warm evenings, for Wallack’s Theatre is not a comfortable place of amusement in summer weather. Lotta has entirely recovered from her indisposition, and is now as lively as a cricket. ‘Fire Fly’ has been cut down considerably since the first night, much of the dialogue being omitted, and the piece runs smoothly now. . . . Lotta does not beat a drum solo as originally announced, preferring to wait until she has had more practice.”
