“The great organ, which . . . will be played to-day in its full strength for the first time. The music will be of the best quality. The services will be held as follows: At 4 ½ A.M., solemn mass, to be followed by low masses at intervals of half an hour until 10 ½, when the pontifical high mass will be held.  Archbishop McClockey will be the celebrant, assisted by a large number of the clergy. The sermon will be preached by the Rev. Dr. Anderdon of England. In the afternoon, first mass, mass No. 5 in D, composed by the musical director, Professor Gustavus Schmitz, will be sung by a volunteer choir of thirty-five singers. At the high mass Haydn’s second mass in C and an offertory, ‘Quam dilects,’ by Mercadante will be performed. The solos will be sung by Madame Chomé, Mrs. Werner, H. Schmitz, and A. Sohst. At the elevation of the host, Mrs. F. H. Gross (soprano) will sing the aria ‘Ecce panis.’ At vespers the solos will be given by Signore Cerutti and Alms and Madame Connor. The organ will be played by Mr. G. Schmitz.”
