“Kelly and Leon’s troupe, never behind in the way of novelty, will present for the first time a Franco-American burlesque, ‘Gin-nevieve de Graw.’ Leon as Drogan will be immense.”

“The point of interest in the entertainment of this company last night was a new ‘piece,’ so called, burlesquing that great burlesque, ‘Genevieve of Brabant.’  It seems to have become the fashion with the nigger minstrels to burlesque everything presented in the shape of a play, and thus their stages are merely a poor reflex of the dramatic follies of the time rather than original or fresh food for laughter. Sometimes, however, their efforts have some good in the shape of wit, whim, and extravagance of fancy. In the present instance they fail altogether. The nigger ‘Genevieve’ is only a boisterous piece of buffoonery, without any point whatever and with the least possible relation to the piece it ridicules. No one would guess the purpose if the orchestra did not murder two or three strains of the opera. The imitation of Piton and Grabuge was an exception to the general worthlessness and was well done.”

“The Tyrolean Singers are also very good, and receive an encore each evening. Leon as Drogan is very good, and he imitates Rose Bell to perfection.”
