The musical soiree of the Schillerbund at the Germania Assembly Rooms [on the 25th] offered a diverse and satisfactory program. The performance of Rossini’s overture from Diebische Elster, the overture of Dichter und Bauer, and the finale from Lucrezia Borgia satisfied. We missed the first part of the vocal performances; however, we were told the “Stille Wasserrose” and also Billeter’s “Hymne an die Musik” were done with precision. The vocal performances of the second part were the splendid “Einkehr” by Zöllner and the “Bachus Chor” from Mangold’s “Hermannsschlacht”. We would have wished for a different bass solo; however, all in all, the concert was very satisfactory. The event was overcrowded.
