“Yesterday evening the brothers Rizareli, the celebrated Spanish gymnasts, in addition to their perilous and marvelous aerial flights on the flying trapeze, made their first appearance here in the ‘exquisite act of ground gymnastics’ entitled ‘Les Jeux de Salon, by which, during four years at the Cirque Napoleon and the Cirque de l’Imperatrice, Paris, they maintained their renown. The brothers Rizareli are certainly formidable rivals of the famous Leotard, who lately made a flying leap to America, and, in disgust at his cool reception here, so speedily made another flying leap back to Europe. What with the brothers Rizarelli, Mlle. Caroline Rolland, Melville and his infant son; Robert Stickney, the champion; the Levantine Brothers; Williams and Conrad, the clowns; ‘the teriffic battoute leaps the corps of voitigeurs’ and ‘the entire strength of the mammoth circus troupe,’ the New York Circus offers almost as endless a variety of entertainments as ‘the mammoth places of amusements’ opposite.”
