“That much abused, and much enduring old muse, Melpomene, has been subjected to fresh outrage at the hands of Mr. Henry Moesinger, a German gentleman of strong ambition and stronger accent, who, with audacious presumption, rushed into the fatal confines of the New York theatre to prop its failing fortunes with ‘Hinko, the Headsman,’ himself as Hinko. If anything could be worse than the name of the title rôle it was Mr. Moesinger’s playing of it. He defies criticism by so entirely upsetting the rules of art as to preclude the possibility of their application.” Continues quite negatively. Although this review seems to imply that there were performances of Hinko into the week of 03/15/69, Music in Gotham cannot find any citations to prove it.
