The ridiculous reason assigned for this is that he is wealthy, when it is well known that he did not even retire, or think of doing so, when he was poor. Mr. Maretzek is in the ermine of prosperity and as warm as toast. We have not heard him express a single wish to die. In view of opposition, too, he is additionally animated, and we therefore venture to predict that the rumor of his retirement is an is an airy fiction.
