“Since Alf Burnett joined issue with James Taylor, at Apollo Hall, business has steadily improved every night; in fact, the attendance has nearly doubled since Alf commenced making faces at the audience and delivering his lectures. Mr. Burnett is an attraction in himself sufficient to not only draw a crowded house but keep the auditors in the best of spirits, and then in addition to him, we have Mr. Taylor, who is one of the best comic vocalists that has ever come from England. Mr. Taylor appears each evening in five or six pleasing caricatures and songs, while Mr. Burnett gives recitations, and lectures in addition to that laughable interlude called Mr. and Mrs. Candle, in which he is capitally supported by Miss Nash.”
