The German-Italian opera ensemble leaves us today. Some of their leading singers have reached a respectable age as LaGrange and Brignoli on the Italian side, and Rotter and Cellini on the German. The star of this year’s opera however was Miss Augusta States, who improved tremendously after last year’s failed debut. She possesses a mezzo soprano, which is also full and round in the middle and lower ranges. (…)

Robert was the best performance of this week despite the fact that it was sung half in German and half in Italian. The Freischütz was the most attractive of the German opera, Fidelio was the most terrible.
