“Henrietta Markstein.—This young lady, just about three months past her thirteenth year, gave a private rehearsal to friends and connoisseurs last evening at her father’s residence, on Second avenue. Since her first public concert at Steinway Hall, in November last, Miss Markstein has improved so that she may not challenge comparison with any pianist in the world. The series of variations on ‘Home, Sweet Home’ were exquisitely rendered, the melody being a perfect imitation of the human voice. The remarkable fact was noticed, while Miss Henrietta sat at the piano, that her side face or profile resembled that of Franz Liszt when a boy as he appeared for the first time in public at a concert of the Catholic Church Music Society at Presburg, Hungary, and by all those present who had known Liszt in his youth the resemblance was at once recognized.”
