“Brougham’s Burlesque of ‘Red Hot,’ which had to be postponed on March 29th, in consequence of the illness of Nelse Seymour, is announced for production at Bryants’ this evening, Mr. Seymour having sufficiently recovered from his late accident to warrant it.”

Review: New York Clipper, 17 April 1869, 14.

“The Bryants’, at their minstrel hall, produced on the 5th inst., the burlesque of ‘Orpheus,’ wirrten expressly for them by John Brougham, and which they have rechristened ‘Red Hot.’ It has been gotten up with some new dresses and new scenery, and is altogether a creditable production. It contains songs set to the most popular airs of the day, and many laughable puns, and hits on the times…Eugene’s make up for Eurydice was excellent. His dresses were rich and his singing of ‘Tassles on the Boot’s heartily encored.’” No more about music.
