“The Erie aspirant for managerial honors as not been notably successful so far in his efforts to make a sensation on the boards…[a] representative of the Erie managerial neophyte departed for Europe with ‘millions’ at his command to bring over all the talent that could be found there. His mission was like that of the King of France who, with his hundred men,Marched up the hill and then marched down again.

“He returned to New York and was obliged to engage his company here…This practice of rushing off to England to procure talent when there is an abundance of it here has taken hold of many of our managers. We could not certainly object if they procured real talent there, but, as a general thing, they meet with only ‘sticks,’ and this while many of our best acrots are at the disposal of those London struck directors of the drama. But whatever relation the ‘Tempest’ at the Grand Opera House may have to a teapot, it will not be so eminently wanting in the elements of success as the forthcoming representation of ‘Lurline’ at the other opera house.” Goes on to criticize Fisk further; suggests he would find better success using different talent (specifically Kellogg and Parepa-Rosa).
