“Mr. Jesse BH Shepard, the great clairvoyante pianiste, singer (soprano), and composer.”
The “last concert” of Shepard’s. “A limited number of tickets will be sold at the office.”
Brief. “Jesse Shepard, a young man who sings in an odd falsetto voice, which he calls soprano, plays the piano quite well, and has ambition as a composer, gave a concert at the Jerome Theatre last night, in which he was the principal performer. A symphony of his own composition formed part of the programme.”
“Mr. Jesse Shepard gave a grand concert last night at Jerome’s theatre [sic, no capital], corner of Madison avenue and Twenty-sixth street. The attendance, though not large, was decidedly select. The programme included selections from Meyerbeer, Beethoven, Verdi and Rossini, as well as some original compositions. An original cavatina named ‘Dernier Adieu’—a very effective piece—was cleverly performed. The ‘Wild Horse Galop,’ also original—a composition of great brilliancy—was also performed with great effect. The other noticeable features of the programme were a symphony in seven movements, composed by Mr. Shepard, and a selection from ‘La Traviata.’ Between the parts a poem was recited by Miss Fannie Allyn. Mr. Shepard was well received and his performances loudly applauded.”
