“The fourth and last soirée of the New-York Conservatory of Music, this season, was given at De Garmo’s Hall, corner Fourteenth–street and Fifth-avenue, last evening, under the direction of A. J. Lejeal. The audience, composed mainly of the pupils of the institution and their friends, and per consequence, select and appreciative, completely filled the hall. The participants all did themselves and their instructors decided credit in their performances. Miss Carrie Wooster and Miss Ella Jocelyn especially displayed admirable technique in their piano-forte playing, while Miss Marie Elsner, a young girl of twelve years, used to advantage a fine and well-trained soprano voice. Mr. S. B. Mills and other professionals assisted—the former securing a great deal of applause by Liszt’s paraphrase of Mendelssohn’s ‘Midsummer Night’s Dream’ and in a trio in C minor by Mendelssohn, rendered with Miss J. B. Przuanski [sic] and Mr. Brandt.”
