“The Central Park Garden is nightly crowded with the lovers of good music. Boston can boast of its big ‘Jubilee’ [a multi-day festival that took place in June 1868], with its attendant thousands of musicianers, but Thomas and Gosche can boast, with some show of justice, of the quality of the music furnished at their cool retreat near Central Park. Boston certainly was far ahead in quantity, but not in the quality. The latter honor is claimed for the Central Park Garden.”
