“Mlle. Irma, the fair, bewitching opera bouffer, who left these benighted shores on Saturday last for ‘La Belle France,’ with all her airs, graces, winks and kicks, is said to have been exceedingly nearsighted, so much so that she cannot see the audience at all when before the footlights. By the said of her eye-glasses, which she always wore when off the stage, she managed, we believe, to see quite a considerable amount of American money in her capacious purse, to get possession of which, we have not the slightest doubt, was the principal object of her visit to this country.”
