“G. L. Fox, the American clown, remains master of the situation, having, in spite of all opposition in the way of clowns—who have been brought across the water for the purpose of showing what English pantomime was—come out victorious, and not only compelled all others to close up, but with quite a loss of money. Excepting the Lydia Thompson Troupe—and their early success was due to the free exhibition of legs—not one of the imported pantomime or burlesque troupes has met with encouragement. American pantomime continues to reign supreme, and G. L. Fox is in his glory. ‘Hickory Dickory Dock’ [sic] will hold the boards at the Olympic until the commencement of the dramatic season, which will be early in September. There was a slight improvement in the attendance at the Olympic the past week, as several of the evenings were cool.”
