Program Details

The citations note that the fantasia on Bellini’s I Puritani is “new” but provide no further details. Thomas had programmed a fantasy on the same opera in this concert series the previous year (see event entries of 06/17/68 and 07/08/68: Thomas Popular Garden Concert); evidently it may have differed in some way from the one on this program. The citations also indicate that Offenbach is the composer of the quadrille on his Grande duchesse, but Music in Gotham assumes this the Strauss version, which Thomas regularly programmed.
